The Center for Educational Research (CER) organized a guest lecture on the theme “Development of an Attitude Scale”. The resource person was Prof. Vishal Sood, Dean and Head, School of Education, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala and an expert in the field of Psychometry, Research Methodology, Statistical Data analysis and Educational Measurement and Evaluation. In his lecture, Dr.
Sood said research tool construction in social sciences is different from positive sciences or pure sciences as in social sciences the focus in on assessing behaviour which is dynamic in nature. He opened his deliberation explaining the classification of research instrument based on the nature of the behaviour characteristics, purpose of research instrument, use of the research tool and types of items in the instrument. Furthermore, he emphasized that there are some essentials that a researcher has to keep in mind while framing the research tool which include: domain of the study, reviewing theoretical and empirical research, identifying the areas and subareas, preparing the item pool, considering the nature of the population and availability of time, resources, and material.
