Internship at Kattu Satya Publication House

DATE Apr 09, 2025

    SPEAKER Mr. Rajkumar

As part of the National Education Policy (NEP) curriculum, the 5th-semester students of B.A. English (Hons.) from the School of Sciences and Humanities, MIER College of Education, participated in an insightful internship at Kattu Satya, a well-known newspaper publishing house of Jammu. This experiential learning visit offered students hands-on exposure to the inner workings of the print media industry. The editor, Mr. Rajkumar, shared valuable knowledge about the process of establishing a publishing house—from legal formalities to the daily challenges of content curation—and encouraged students to explore freelance writing and entrepreneurship as viable career paths. Students had the opportunity to observe and work on the step-by-step process of how a news article is edited, formatted, and finally printed, gaining firsthand experience of the coordination between editorial and technical teams. They also interacted with layout designers to understand how visual elements such as font, spacing, and image placement play a critical role in attracting reader attention. Some students explored the marketing and outreach strategies of the publishing house, learning how news reaches remote readers and how digital transitions are being handled in parallel with print. Throughout the internship, staff members patiently explained the machinery and
workflows, turning complex production processes into accessible learning experiences.
Faculty members Dr. Sahil Bhagat and Dr Palvi Mangotra, Assistant Professors of English accompanied the students during the internship.
