NSS Volunteers and Gender Champions attended National Gender Sensitization Training at Chandigarh

    Two NSS volunteers and Gender Champions from MIER College of Education, Jammu-Ms. Sachinda Mahajan (B.Ed. Special Education) and Mr. Nirbhey Khajuria (M.A. Psychology)-participated in an intensive Gender Sensitization Training held at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Regional Centre, Chandigarh, from 29th July to 1st August 2025.
    The programme, led by Dr. K. Gireesan, Associate Professor, Officer on Special Duty, and Head of Public Administration at RGNIYD, a distinguished academician with extensive expertise in public administration and rural development, Mr. Deepak, an experienced trainer at RGNIYD, with significant contributions from Ms. Purnima, Range Coordinator for 14 districts under the Punjab Police, and Dr. Yadwinder Kour, Coordinator of the Women Help Desk, Punjab Police aimed to foster awareness, empathy, and proactive responsibility towards gender equality. Sessions addressed gender stereotypes, harassment, violence, legal frameworks (POCSO, JJ Act, POSH Act), and the role of ICC/LCC.
    Participants explored gender-sensitive communication, media literacy, and menstrual health management, with links to Sustainable Development Goals. Interactive role plays, discussions, and legal awareness segments equipped them with practical advocacy tools.
    Prof. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal, MIER College of Education (Autonomous), lauded the achievement of the NSS volunteers, noting that their active participation in such programmes strengthens the institution’s mission of nurturing socially responsible, aware, and empowered youth leaders.
    The training transformed participants from passive learners to active changemakers, enhancing their legal literacy, leadership, and commitment to promoting inclusive, safe, and equitable societies. Both volunteers described the experience as transformative and empowering.
