Celebration Librarian’s Day

    Jammu, August 12, 2025 – The Library Committee of MIER College of Education celebrated Librarian’s Day with great enthusiasm, paying tribute to the father of library science in India, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan. The event saw the active participation of all faculty members of the School of Education (SoE) and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SoSSH).
    The celebration commenced with a welcome address by Mrs. Eesha Sharma, Librarian at MIER College of Education. She highlighted the significance of Dr. Ranganathan’s contributions to the field of library science and emphasized the importance of libraries in academic and personal development.
    Following the welcome address, the Principal, Prof. Adit Gupta, along with Head, School of Education – Dr. Nishta Rana, Head, School of Social Sciences & Humanities – Dr. Monika Bajaj, and Dr. Suneel Kumar Bhat, Chief Librarian at MIER College of Education, paid a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Ranganathan. Dr. Bhat elaborated on Dr. Ranganathan’s Five Laws of Library Science and their enduring relevance in the digital age. He also acknowledged the vital role of librarians in fostering a culture of reading and lifelong learning.
    As a mark of appreciation, both the librarians of the college – Dr. Suneel Kumar Bhat and Mrs. Eesha Sharma – were felicitated by the Principal for their dedication to providing accurate resources, fostering research, nurturing a culture of learning, and contribute silently yet significantly to the institution’s growth and success.
    The participation of Quality Assurance Officer – Ms. Ruchi Sharma, IQAC Co-ordinator – Ms. Jasleen Mohial, and faculty members of MIER College of Education added to the vibrancy of the occasion, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the academic community.
    The event was a fitting homage to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, whose pioneering work continues to inspire librarians and educators worldwide. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving attendees with a renewed appreciation for the vital role of libraries and librarians in education.
