The Environment Unit of MIER College of Education, Jammu, organized a significant E-Waste Management and Disposal Drive on August 21, 2025, to promote environmental protection and ensure safe disposal of electronic waste generated within the institution. The initiative aimed at creating awareness about responsible e-waste recycling practices to safeguard the health and well-being of students, staff, and other stakeholders.
Dr. Adit Gupta, Principal and Director MIER, Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Joint Director MIER, Prof. Nishta Rana, Head SoE, Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head SSSH, Dr. Bharti Tandon, Deputy Head SoE, Dr. Mool Raj, CoE MIER College, and the IQAC Team participated in the event.
The resource person for the drive was Mr. Suraj Kapoor, Founder and Director, Bhoomi Saviour Agency Pvt. Ltd., Jammu. In his interactive session, Mr. Kapoor highlighted the growing global concern of electronic waste, describing it as the fastest-growing waste stream in the world. He explained the types of e-waste, its adverse impact on health and the environment, and drew attention to the widespread problem of illegal recycling practices in India. Stressing the urgent need for sustainable management, he encouraged everyone to adopt the 4 R’s: Rethink, Repair, Reuse, and Recycle. His insightful talk inspired participants to adopt more responsible and eco-friendly choices.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of Mrs. Suman Gupta, Convener, Environment Unit in collaboration with Mr. Sanjay Chandel, System Manager, Mrs. Rohini Sharma, ICT Coordinator, and Mr. Naresh Khullar, System Engineer, whose technical support ensured the smooth collection and disposal of e-waste.
The program concluded with a strong call to action—reminding everyone that responsible e-waste management is not just an institutional responsibility, but a collective duty towards building a sustainable future
