MIER College of Education, in collaboration with IIT Jammu, organised an interactive workshop on Novel Methods of Assessment on 6th September 2025 at the MIER campus. The workshop aimed to equip faculty with innovative and student-centric alternatives to traditional examinations. It began with a welcome address by Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal, MIER College of Education, followed by an introduction by Dr. Amitash Ojha, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, IIT Jammu.
The technical sessions were conducted by distinguished faculty of IIT Jammu:
Dr. Garima Singh on Project-Based Assessment
Dr. Ankita Yadav on Peer and Self-Assessment
Dr. Shafkat Shafi Dar on Gamification and Digital Tools
Dr. Ankit Kathuria on Creative Assessment
The sessions included hands-on activities such as designing mini-projects, rubric-based peer reviews, live demonstrations of gamified tools, and brainstorming creative formats like digital storytelling and debates. A group design challenge further encouraged participants to reimagine existing assessments through innovative approaches.
The workshop concluded with a reflection exercise where participants pledged to adopt at least one new method of assessment in their classrooms. The key learnings were summarised by Dr. Amitash Ojha, and the proceedings ended with a formal vote of thanks by Ms. Jasleen Mohial, Coordinator IQAC.
The event was marked by vibrant participation, insightful discussions, and practical demonstrations, inspiring faculty members to embrace meaningful, engaging, and student-centered methods of assessment.
