The Extension Unit of MIER College of Education (Autonomous) organized an awareness lecture on the theme “Women’s Reproductive Health: Menstrual Hygiene” at Government Girls Middle School, Kote (Purkhoo) an adopted village under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan initiative. The primary objective of the programme was to develop awareness among adolescent girls and village women about menstrual health, hygiene practices, and preventive measures essential for maintaining reproductive well-being.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Suman Devi, In-charge of the Extension Unit and Coordinator of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. She extended a cordial welcome to the resource person, Dr. Himani Bhutyal, Medical Officer, AYUSH, Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu, along with Sarpanch Rajni Devi, the Headmistress, school staff, students, and local women. In her address, Mrs. Suman Devi emphasized the importance of spreading awareness about women’s health issues, particularly in rural communities.
Around 24 students from the School of Education and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, MIER College of Education, participated actively in the event. Dr. Bhutyal delivered an insightful lecture on “Menstrual Hygiene and Reproductive Health,” highlighting issues such as irregular cycles, dysmenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome, urinary tract infections, and anemia. She stressed the significance of maintaining hygiene, ensuring balanced nutrition, seeking regular medical advice, and nurturing psychological well-being. Participants were also guided on safe menstrual management and preventive health practices. Later, medicines were distributed among students, staff, and local women.
