To commemorate Constitution Day (Samvidhan Diwas), the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH) at MIER College of Education organized an engaging and insightful Quiz Competition on the theme “Constitution: From Philosophy to Practice.” The event aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the Indian Constitution by connecting its philosophical foundations with its practical relevance in contemporary society.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Nandini Puri, Assistant Professor, who emphasized the significance of constitutional literacy and civic responsibility among youth. She noted that academic activities of this nature enable students to appreciate the Constitution as a living, evolving document that shapes the democratic ethos of the nation.
Following the welcome, Unmesh Kant, a student of B.A. (Hons.) Political Science, recited the Preamble to the Constitution, setting a reflective and patriotic tone for the event. His reading reminded the audience of the guiding ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity that form the bedrock of India’s democracy. The quiz then formally began, initiating a lively and intellectually stimulating competition.
A total of eight undergraduate teams, each comprising two students, participated enthusiastically in the quiz. The rounds covered a wide range of topics including the philosophical underpinnings of the Constitution, Constituent Assembly Debates, Fundamental Rights and Duties, landmark amendments, and the contemporary application of constitutional values. Participants demonstrated commendable enthusiasm, teamwork, and quick analytical thinking throughout the competition.
After a closely contested series of rounds, three teams emerged as winners: Alisha Fatima and Ashish Mahajan secured the first position; Shiny James and Unmesh Kant secured the second position; and Ipshita Vairagi and Mannat Gupta claimed the third position. Their performances reflected a strong grasp of constitutional principles and their relevance in modern governance.
Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head of SSSH, appreciated the initiative and urged students to continue exploring the Constitution beyond classroom discussions. She emphasized the importance of understanding constitutional values to become informed and responsible citizens. Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal, MIER College of Education, congratulated the winners and commended the department for promoting constitutional awareness among students. He remarked that Constitution Day is not merely a symbolic observance, but a vital opportunity to reaffirm the ideals that uphold India’s democratic framework.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Kajal Badyal, Assistant Professor, who expressed gratitude to the participants, faculty members, and organizing team for their collective efforts in making the programme a meaningful and successful celebration of Constitution Day.
